The Best of Sherlock Holmes

List of Citations

From A Checklist of Facsimiles of the Sherlock Holmes Stories

By Randall Stock, 28 January 2007

This list of citations organizes the sources of reproductions by the title of the publication in which they appear.  This simplifies locating all the issues of a specific periodical or catalogue that contain facsimiles of the manuscripts.   Each citation begins with the title of a publication and is structured to make it as easy as possible for you to locate and positively identify the source.

Unlike the Checklist itself, this list only contains the source citations.  Descriptions of the reproduced text are available on the Checklist using the cross-reference Story-Item numbers.  Details about Story-Item codes and related information are listed at the bottom of this page in the Notes section.

Citations are listed in order by the title of the publication where the reproduction appears, omitting leading articles such as "A" or "The."  Catalogues and related books are grouped by the name of the firm even if the publication has a distinct title.  Thus, all items from Christie's, Sotheby's, Maggs Brothers, Pepper & Stern, and the House of El Dieff are listed together based on the initial letters of the firm name.

Items from Lew David Feldman and the House of El Dieff are listed under "H."  Items from Parke-Bernet are grouped with "Sotheby Parke-Bernet" and are listed under "S."  Some additional related information is available in the Bookseller and Auction Catalogues Supplement.

Please send me e-mail if you know of other appearances of facsimiles of the manuscripts or have corrections or suggestions for this list.  If you have an extensive collection of Sherlockiana, especially bookseller or auction house catalogs, please look at the list of Unconfirmed Facsimile Items to see if you could help to augment the current checklist information.
